    Students learn principles of effective science communication, develop practical skills necessary for effective science communication, and design strategies that address the communication needs of groups such as government organisations, informal museums, science centres and research centres.     The Master of Physics consists of an equal combination of advanced coursework and a research project and dissertation. The research project is undertaken as part of an internationally recognised research group. In the Astronomy and Astrophysics specialisation, you will undertake a research project on an appropriate astronomy-related topic that will develop your independent research and analytical abilities and expose them to current techniques and technologies in their field of research. You will also take a series of focussed coursework units covering topics such as astronomy techniques (in multiple wavebands), astro-statistics, galactic dynamics, compact objects, astrophysical shocks, plasma astrophysics, space electrodynamics and high-energy astrophysics

    The Data Science major at UWA focuses on data and scientific computation.     Computing software and systems are becoming an ever more prevalent part of our lives revolutionising the way we live, work and communicate. The Computer Science major will give you the knowledge and skills required to be a part of this revolution. You will learn the theoretical, algorithmic, implementation and systems principles that underpin computer languages and computer networks and discover how to develop new technologies and advanced programming. The Computer Science major is suitable if you wish to play a role in developing new computing technologies (for example with companies such as Google or Microsoft) or specialise in enterprise-level programming, systems, Software Engineering or research careers.     UWA is one of only two universities that offer undergraduate science communication programs in Australia. This major must be taken in conjunction with another science major, giving you both sound scientific knowledge and highly marketable communication skills. This major will teach you to communicate effectively with audiences ranging from children to scientists. Science Communication will provide you with experience in new media; written, oral and visual presentations; science performance; and working with industry experts.

    This course provides its graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills to explain and apply appropriate information technology (IT) methodologies to help an individual or organisation achieve its goals and objectives. Students also learn to appreciate the scientific foundations on which IT are built, and to anticipate the changing direction of IT and evaluate and communicate the effectiveness of new technologies. This course is now available to all cognate and non-cognate students.

    This graduate certificate covers all aspects of architectural conservation from the international to the local level, and aims to develop professional level skills in conservation planning and in practical building conservation. The course is currently only available part-time, and although the timetabling is not yet finalised it is likely that one unit per semester will be offered during a week day and the other after hours. The reason for this is that two units in this Graduate Certificate course are offered as optional units within the full-time Master of Architecture course.

    Students completing the Graduate Certificate in Scientific and High Performance Computing will become equipped with the necessary numerical analysis methods as well as programming languages; become familiar with a variety of visualisation and data analysis techniques; learn to use networked computer systems, shared resources and a variety of operating systems; and demonstrate mastery of parallel programming concepts by solving scientific computing problems in the student’s core discipline.
