The Master of Law, Media and Journalism is a joint program of Faculty of Law and the Journalism Media Research Centre in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
The Master of Law, Media and Journalism is a specialist degree intended for individuals with an interest in the developing relationship between media and law. It is open to students from a media background, law background, or who have previously undertaken a Bachelors degree but have no prior experience in either media or law.
Applicants are required to have completed a bachelor degree in a health-related discipline and to have at least one year of experience in a health or a health-related field.
The requirements of this program are for students commencing their studies in 2014. Continuing students also have the option of completing the 2014 program requirements if they wish. Continuing students can view their original program requirements in previous editions of the handbook.
The Master of International Law and International Relations is a joint program of the Faculty of Law and the School of Social Sciences and International Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
The Graduate Diploma in International Law and International Relations is a joint program of UNSW Law and the School of Social Sciences and International Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Admission to the Master in Journalism and Communication is based on the applicant holding a recognised Bachelor degree with performance at credit level or better.
Students may apply for advanced standing or credit transfers if they can demonstrate equivalent study at UNSW or another institution.
The Master of Journalism and Communication will provide students with a professionally relevant and academically excellent education in journalism and communication. Students will acquire a portfolio of skills in media practice that will equip them for work in print, radio, television and online media and in the media relations and corporate communication sectors. Students will develop a knowledge of the social, economic and political role of Australian and international media industries and explore future directions in media and communication production. They will also learn to work in teams, manage media production projects and reflect on the ethics of professional practice. Students will learn in purpose built facilities that prepare them for work in real-world professional contexts.
Admission to the Graduate Diploma in Journalism and Communication is based on the applicant holding a recognised Bachelor degree with performance at credit level or better. Significant work experience may be taken into account in cases where academic qualifications do not meet these requirements. A one page curriculum vitae must be submitted with all applications.

Applicants who do not hold a Bachelor degree can also apply for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Journalism and Communication on the basis of significant work experience and on successful completion of the Graduate Certificate apply for admission to the Graduate Diploma in Journalism and Communication.

The program is available to graduates or graduands of another Faculty of UNSW or another approved university. Applicants who hold only postgraduate qualifications are welcome to apply for entry to this program but must indicate this by writing to the Faculty of Law directly for consideration as well as following the usual application procedures. The JD is a postgraduate level law degree that is recognised for the purpose of admission to practise law. A 144 unit of credit program, it may be taken on a full-time or part-time basis. It is made up of 96 units of credit of compulsory courses, 6 units of credit of prescribed electives and 42 units of credit of free electives. The compulsory courses and prescribed electives cover the areas of study prescribed by the Legal Profession Admission Board (NSW) for recognition of the degree for professional practice.
A Masters by Research program requires students to undertake an original investigation. In comparison to a doctorate however, this investigation is generally more limited in scope and degree of originality. The work is closely supervised in the early problem formulation stages and whenever a new technique is being used. The program requires the submission of a thesis embodying the results of an original investigation or design.
