Astrophysics is the application of physics and mathematics to understanding the constituent parts of the Universe at large, from the lives and deaths of stars to the formation of galaxies, from compact black holes and neutron stars to the largest clusters of galaxies. The Leicester Physics with Astrophysics degree is the oldest established astrophysics degree in England and includes topics such as super-massive black-holes, active galaxies and gamma-ray bursts.
We run the longest established Physics with Astrophysics degree in the UK, on which you will be able to explore topics ranging from the lives and deaths of stars to the formation of galaxies, and from the search for exo-planets to the discovery of black holes.
As a Physics with Space Science student you will acquire an appreciation of the scope and impact of modern physics and the use of mathematics, computing and experimentation to solve important real world problems, and develop specialised knowledge of space science.

Politics has been taught at Leicester since the 1940s and we have always been at the cutting edge of British political science – we aim to fire your intellectual curiosity about the politics of the world. As well as examining the workings of the political system in the UK and other states, you will explore some of the most important and interesting issues in politics: Who holds power and why? Is there a crisis of political participation? What are the appropriate limits to individual liberty? Is globalisation a positive process? When is war just?

Politics and Economics are subjects that go hand in hand because one will always have an impact on the other. Economics studies the ways in which external factors influence the economy and politics is one of the many external factors that has an impact on the economy. The success or failure of the economy is also a key aspect of political debate.
