Lancaster's joint Mathematics and Philosophy degree is delivered by internationally renowned academics in our Department of Mathematics and Statistics – ranked ninth in the UK by The Times Good University Guide, 2016 - and our Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion.
Flexibility is built into all degree programmes at Lancaster. Specifically, this means that our nine single-honours degrees share a common core for the first two years, thus building foundations for further study in each of the disciplines of algebra, analysis, probability and statistics. In the second year, you choose to complete either a three year BSc Hons, or a four year MSci, specialising in either pure mathematics or statistics, or taking a combination of the two.

Our three-year BEng is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineering as meeting partial fulfilment of the educational requirements to become a Chartered Engineer.

Whether as sources of information, producers of entertainment or modes of creative self-expression, contemporary media are all too seldom subject to intense scrutiny and critical interrogation, except during feverish moments of scandal, crisis or panic.
Drawing on modules from across the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, particularly the Department of History, the Medieval and Renaissance Studies degree will develop your critical abilities within a vibrant department of like-minded students and expert scholars.
