2015-16申请季中将近一半的学生主文书写的是“成长背景、身份、兴趣和才能”，为最热门的文书主题。而只有4%的学生选择了写“挑战过的信仰或观念”，为最冷门主题。
下面是2015-16主文书写作统计：
Option 1: Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story. (47%)
选题1：一些学生有非常重要的背景、身份、兴趣或才能，如果不予讲述出来的话，那就不是完整的申请。如果你是这样的学生，请分享你的故事。
Option #2: The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience? (17%)
选题2: 失败是成功之母。叙述一件你失败过的事情或是一段失败沮丧的时期。它对你有何影响，你从中学到了什么?
Option #3: Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again? (4%)
选题3：你有挑战过固有的信仰或观念吗?是什么促使你产生这样的行为?你现在还会做出同样的选择吗?
Option #4: Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma--anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution. (10%, 但这个是2015年才开始采用的新文书主题)

Option #5: Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family. (22%)

Common App官方已经宣布2016-17的主文书题目将保持不变，所以11年级的同学们现在就可以开始构思文书写作，点击此处即可查看我们以前一篇关于主文书题目的深度剖析文章。考虑到招生官员、升学顾问、家长和学生对文书写作方面的考量，Common App从现在起每两年更新主文书题目，而不是每年都更新。
“Common App与600多所大学合作，我们想确保每个申请者都能找到适合自己的文书题目，在文书中展现其独特和优秀”，Common App资深总监Scott Anderson如是说。
对于一些大学，除了主文书写作要求，还会有自己学校的补充文书，如哈佛耶鲁。另外，加州大学系列分校、伊利诺伊香槟分校、宾州州立大学等一些公立大学不使用Common App申请系统, 而采用自己的申请系统，用的自然是不同的文书题目。
